Corría el año 2001 cuando aparecen en sociedad Polímetro con su único disco "Metrópolis" presentando un metal progresivo de muy alta factura con composiciones creativas y excelente interpretación, eventualmente la banda se disuelve y los hermanos Esquivel crean Mythology con la cual durante un tiempo hacen un excelente power metal con tintes progris. Recientemente han anunciado que Polímetro regresa tras ochos años de receso y ya tienen programadas algunas tocatas en Santiago, la nueva formación es Ricardo Susarte en voces, Carlos y Patricio Esquivel en guitarra y batería respectivamente, los nuevos, América Soto en el bajo y Mauricio Eyzaguirre en teclados.

"Junto con mi hermano Patricio Esquivel (batería), Ricardo Susarte (voces) y quien les escribe, hace un tiempo hemos decidido resucitar a (...) POLIMETRO, de la cual afortunadamente fuimos parte hace ya bastante tiempo", informó Carlos a los medios.

"En este sentido quisiera informarles que dentro de esta nueva formación se encuentra America Soto como bajista (Hija de los grandes Sol y Media noche) y (...) Mauricio Eyzaguirre, ex tecladista de Alta Densidad y Afterlife".

"Durante algún tiempo hemos estado trabajando silenciosamente en la creación de nuevos temas y ya estamos en condiciones de mostrar muchos de ellos, por lo tanto les comunico que próximamente tenemos agendadas dos tocatas".

"La primera es para el 10 de Octubre en el Galpón Víctor Jara, en el barrios Brasil junto a (...) ALTO VOLTAJE, KINGDOM OF HATE y DEVIL PRESLEY. La siguiente, que tiene gran relevancia para nosotros ya que es el lanzamiento oficial de POLIMETRO, es en la Sala SCD de Vicuña Mackenna el 6 de Noviembre a las 21:00. En este lanzamiento contaremos con la presencia de nuestros amigos GARDEN BITCH.

Toda la psicodelia y la vanguardia se deja caer en VAD con "The Mars Volta" y su sencillo "The Widow", perteneciente al disco "Frances the mute".

Los comienzos

Antes de formar The Mars Volta, Cedric Bixler-Zavala y Omar Rodríguez-López eran parte de At the Drive-In, aunque integraban también De Facto junto al ingeniero de sonido Jeremy Michael Ward. En De Facto, Bixler-Zavala se encargaba de la Batería, Rodríguez-López del bajo, mientras que Ward se ocupaba de los efectos de sonido y voces.

A pesar de que De Facto comenzó como una banda de rock, pronto fueron atraídos por la música de pioneros del reggae y el dub (como Lee Perry y Dr. Alimantado), y por otros géneros como la electrónica, el jazz y ritmos latinos la salsa. La agrupación dio varios conciertos en su ciudad natal, El Paso, Texas, y lanzó su primer disco: How Do You Dub? You Fight for Dub, You Plug Dub In.

En el 2000 los integrantes de De Facto se mudaron a Long Beach, California, incorporando a un nuevo integrante en sus filas: Ikey Owens, que se encargó de los teclados. En 2001, el grupo lanzó, a través de Gold Standard Laboratories, su segundo álbum: el exitoso Megaton Shotblast. De Facto continuó trabajando con nuevos sonidos, luego de que Rodríguez-López y Bixler-Zavala decidieran irse de At the Drive-In. Los restantes miembros de ésta banda formarían Sparta.

Con la incorporación de Eva Gardner, De Facto se convirtió en lo que hoy es The Mars Volta, un nuevo proyecto formado con el objetivo de satisfacer las búsquedas creativas de sus miembros. En 2001, The Mars Volta grabó dos canciones junto al baterista Blake Fleming y el productor Alex Newport, que se convertirían finalmente en su primer demo. En su primer show en vivo en grupo se conformó con: Rodríguez-López, Bixler-Zavala, Ward, Owens, Gardner y el baterista Jon Theodore. Con estos integrantes la banda grabó tres canciones más junto a Newport, las cuales formarían lo que sería su primer EP: Tremulant, lanzado en 2002.

Therion - Blood Of Kingu (en vivo 2007 Miskolc Experience) 9:29:00

Recientemente pude obtener ;) el nuevo DVD de estos suecos Miskolc Experience lanzado este año pero grabado cuando aun contaban con Mats Leven, es realmente espectacular y una vez más ejecutan la fusión entre metal, ópera y orquesta de manera perfecta. Como extra les dejo algo de Verdi por Therion, realmente imperdible. Disfruten del rock!

Adagio - Fear Circus (2009) 9:17:00

Adagio es una banda francesa que tiene sus bases en el power metal y el metal progresivo, haciendo una referencia sencilla se puede comparar con Symphony X o Elegy, pero Adagio presenta más toques barrocos y clasisistas, además de unas voces guturales en sus últimos trabajos que aderezan un poco más su música.
Han lanzado 4 discos el primero el 2001, "Sanctus Ignus", en el 2003, "Underworld", luego en el año 2004 el excelente en vivo "A Band in Upperworld", "Dominate" el 2006 y en febrero de este año "Archangels In Black" al cual pertenece este videoclip oficial que por lo demás tiene muy buena factura.

Melenas y cuero, no podía faltar, de los 80s es esta buenísima presentación en Tokio y parte de la gira de promoción del disco "The Warning", es realmente sobresaliente la voz del amigo Geoff Tate cuya calidad queda patente en esta grabación, él a mi gusto es uno de los mejores vocalistas en pie hoy en día, su rango es único.
Esta banda de metal progresivo nace en 1981 y continúan hasta la fecha con una impecable trayectoria, en marzo de este año lanzaron su último disco "American Soldier".

Dream Theater & Queensryche - Comfortably Numb (2003) 0:10:00

Hoy, especialmente para todos los muchos fanáticos de Pink Floyd, les traigo este cover por Dream Theater y Queensryche, dos ya máximos exponentes del metal progresivo, presentando su homenaje a una banda tan influyente; a mi parecer Jeoff Tate no se encontraba a gusto o algo le pasaba en ese momento, porque su talento no se ve, además James Labrie comete algunos errores, pero vale la pena de todas formas ver a estas dos grandes bandas interpretando a otra excelente banda.
Este video aparece en el material extra del DVD y bootleg oficial de Dream Theater Dark Side Of The Moon, donde se reproduce la presentación en Londres, Inglaterra el 25 de October de 2005, del disco completo de Pink Floyd (una gracia que tienen estos estadounidenses, de tocar discos completos de sorpresa)

Estos chilenos desarrollan un metal progresivo y power metal, con notorias influencias de bandas como Symphony X. Los integrantes son Felipe Del valle en voz, Benjamín Lechuga en guitarra, Santiago Kegevik en bajo, Nicolás Quinteros en teclado y Andrés Rojas en batería. Su música es realmente buena, tienen excelente ejecución y en vivo logran entregar toda su capacidad, han teloneado a Dream Theater y Edguy recibiendo muy buena crítica.
Han lanzado 3 discos ya Apollyon Is Free, Black & Cold, Crashbreaker y un DVD en vivo titulado Live At The Beginning, todos con una producción excelente.

Dream Theater - A Rite of Passage (2009) 0:07:00

Para comenzar la semana de buena manera, les traigo un clip que me agradó bastante.
De esta banda no escribiré mucho pues en la web existe multitud de material disponible (links al final como siempre), nace en el año 1985, son estadounidenses y hacen metal progresivo con una ejecución realmente excelente.
Con respecto al video, es el nuevo single y pertenece a su nueva placa "Black Clouds & Silver Linings", su décimo álbum de estudio y cuyo lanzamiento ha sido anunciado para el 23 de junio de este año, está disponible en iTunes desde el 13 de mayo y cuenta con una muy buena producción, efectos y tratamiento visual, además Jordan Rudess confirmó que la letra de esta canción esta basada en la masonería.

Mythology - The Island (2002) 3:17:00

Para celebrar la goleada a Bolivia (al fin Palmatoria!) hoy tenemos a Mythology, banda chilena ya disuelta, la forman los ex miembros de Polímetro Carlos y Patricio Esquivel, guitarra y batería respectivamente, Nicolás Munizaga en guitarra, Carlos Cid (coterreano coyhaiquino, tocaba en Sarcasmo allá en los 90s...) en bajo, Aníbal González en teclado y Freddy Cortéz en las voces.
Ellos hacían un power metal tirando para progresivo melódico de muy buena calidad, lanzan en 2002 el disco "The Kingdom of Sun" que presenta dos excelentes tracks, The Island y The Arrival Of The Light, antes lanzados como demo y los mejores a mi gusto del disco. Destaco el timbre del vocalista que, aunque suene un poco forzado y no maneje muy bien la dicción del inglés tiene un carácter preciso y que lo diferencia del típico chillón cliché.

Symphony X es una banda estadounidense formada en 1994. Su estilo se mueve principalmente por el metal progresivo y el power metal además de un toque de neoclásico, logrando una fusión única y propia. El video de hoy es uno de los dos creados para promocionar su disco del 2007 "Paradise Lost" y presenta unos buenos efectos digitales y producción (considerando el estigma de las bandas metaleras y sus videos de baja calidad por decir lo menos), sin más, les dejo el video de una de mis bandas actuales favoritas, disfruten el rock!
